Tatamis are rice straw mats that are traditionally used as floor coverings in living rooms and temples in Japan. The interior of the tatami is made of dried and tightly pressed rice straw. A mat made of Igusa grass serves as the surface. The long edges are bordered with black cotton ribbon. Height: 5.5 cm Tatamis can also be used individually, for example as a base for futons. They have very good heat and sound insulating properties. In Japan they are never walked on with shoes.
